Beware of driving on Fridays

B eware of hitting the roads on Fridays; they are not the same as they were on Thursday?

Everybody is anxious to start their weekends, so they're all thinking about something other than focusing on their driving. 

The odds of getting into a driving accident increase during periods when there are more cars on the road, such as rush hour, or when driving conditions are less than optimal, as during periods of inclement weather.

Research into accident claims by car insurance company AXA has shown that car accidents increase by 8.5 percent on Fridays compared with other days in summer.  In contrast, fewest accidents take place on a Monday. 

If you are planning to get behind the wheel this summer, AXA's statistics suggest you are most likely to have an accident on the Friday following the bank holiday. 

Likewise, you are 21 per cent more likely to have an accident on the Friday after school holidays begin, how did you get on?

If you want to be extra safe this year, bank holiday Monday (30 August) is statistically the safest day for drivers. 

It's important to plan ahead as you could avoid the stress of traffic jams by checking to see if there are any problems reported on the route before you set off. 

Apparently, nearly a quarter of us leave for a holiday without planning the journey beforehand.  If you're not well prepared for your journey, you could end up getting into difficulty on unfamiliar roads.
