First drink driver of 2013

A JOBLESS man started the New Year in a rather forgettable manner after he became the first suspected drink-driver of 2013 in Essex.

The 37-year old was stopped on Sun Street in Billericay shortly after midnight on January 1.

He had contravened a no-entry sign in front of a marked police car.

The man, from Dagenham, was arrested after failing a roadside breath test and later charged with one count of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

He was released on police bail until his appearance at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Thursday, January 17.
